Your daily job and responsibilities

  1. Build, test, evaluate, maintain and improve upon optimization models. Key areas of focus: energy asset deployment, greenhouse emission reduction and energy storage/building operations.

  2. Gather and characterize data inputs and outputs for the models. Including data gathering, quality control, exploratory analysis, and feature engineering/selection.

  3. Build, test, evaluate, maintain and improve upon time-series forecasting models with focus on site electrical loads, renewable generation, EV loads and market prices.

  4. Build physical and statistical models.

  5. Develop and integrate algorithms into production modeling environments.

  6. Application and feature design/development while writing efficient, reliable, and maintainable code.

  7. Work with Software Engineers to integrate optimization, forecasting and modeling code into the software stack.

  8. Troubleshooting, debugging, maintaining and improving existing software.

Your Teamleader and Modeling Team member profiles

Phil Regulski

(Director, Data Science)

Phil has over 20 years of experience in data science and ML, over half in the energy sector leading teams to develop software focused on renewable energy solutions. His mission is to create industry disrupting, state-of-the-art software solutions for BPP in order to transform buildings into flexible power networks that help secure access to reliable, clean energy for cities and communities.

The modeling team is responsible for building, deploying, and maintaining complex machine learning models to prepare optimized prediction, simulation, analysis and dispatch plans for the energy portfolio.

Andrej Hanušovský

(Data Scientist)

Andrej is a data scientist with an energy background (graduated Energy engineer from Politecnico di Milano, Italy). In The modeling team he is responsible for planning, implementation and deployment of new models and features. You will closely cooperate with him on their  design and programming.

Relevant skills, knowledge and experience

  • MUST HAVE:

    • Extensive experience building, maintaining and improving optimization models (e.g., LPs, MILPs and open-source solvers); preferably in the energy sector.

    • Hands-on experience with data science project workflows (problem definition, data gathering/cleansing/imputation/engineering; exploratory analysis, feature/model algorithm selection, training/tuning, evaluation, etc.).

    • Experience in the manipulation and analysis of large data sets and time-series data.

    • Experience working with SCM (git).

  • SHOULD HAVE:

    • Strong python design and development skills including modeling libraries and frameworks such as pandas, numpy, scipy, etc.

    • Structured software development experience including Agile software development processes.

    • Familiarity with prototyping in Jupyter notebooks.

    • Proven ability to learn quickly and works well both independently and in a (distributed) team setting.

    • Ability to present and communicate results to technical and non-technical audiences.

  • COULD HAVE:

    • Experience in creating time-series forecasting models.

    • Familiarity with subset of topics within ML (e.g., tree based methods, simple and complex regression models, SVMs, RNNs, clustering, dimensionality reduction, etc.).

    • Involvement with physical/statistical model development.

  • NICE TO HAVE:

    • Knowledge of the energy industry - familiarity with energy markets, renewables, distributed energy resources and site optimization.
